Meraki Firewall Security
Cisco Meraki firewalls are part of the Meraki MX series, which combines security and SD-WAN, reducing the number of devices you’ll need in your stack. MX devices are fully cloud-based, making deployment and management virtual and seamless.
Meraki security is supported by Cisco Talos Threat Intelligence, which consists of more than 250 full-time threat researchers, 100 threat intelligence partners and 1,100 threat traps. Talos is constantly discovering new cyberthreats and logging them in their database, which allows Meraki firewalls to recognize and block them.
Meraki firewalls also power site-to-site auto VPN, which enables site-to-site, Layer 3 IPsec VPN tunnel configuration in just two clicks. The Meraki dashboard can connect multiple MX devices to negotiate VPN routes, authentication and encryption protocols, and key exchange automatically to create hub-and-spoke or mesh VPN topologies. MXs with two uplinks will automatically self-heal to re-negotiate VPN tunnels if a primary uplink goes down.
Meraki’s Security Center within the Meraki dashboard allows you to dial into an overview of your firewalls or a summary of device events. You can pull up a view of devices on a map, most affected clients and their networks, event frequency over time, and other analytics for either a high-level overview or a granular report.

There are several models within the MX family that meet different business needs. All of them, however, include:
- 2 WAN ports
- 3G/4G/LTE USB as single-WAN or failover
- High availability mode and automatic WAN failover
- Additional Ethernet ports with PoE/PoE+ options
- Some models include embedded LTE modem
